“Where Language, Culture, and Thought Converge”
The Sinocultural Review is now accepting submissions for its annual edition. We welcome contributions that explore Chinese language, thought, culture, and creative expression across historical, literary, artistic, and everyday domains. Our journal features a unique blend of scholarly research, creative writing, cultural criticism, and arts commentary, including opportunities for student writers and emerging voices.

Submission Categories:

Scholarly Articles – Peer-reviewed research on Chinese language, literature, philosophy, strategy (e.g., Sun Zi, Thirty-Six Stratagems*), history, Sinophone/cross-cultural studies, international relations.

Creative Works – Poetry, prose, short fiction, creative nonfiction, bilingual or translation-based writing, and the Student Creative Writing Showcase.

Culture in Practice – Essays on food, travel, customs, rituals, mythology, proverbs, and other lived cultural experiences.

Arts & Aesthetics – Critical and reflective writing on visual arts, calligraphy, theater, film, exhibitions, and traditional or contemporary artistic practices.

Photography & Painting – Original photographic works, paintings, mixed-media visual art, and creative visual projects.

Reviews – Analytical reviews of books, films, exhibitions, and cultural events or festivals.

Perspectives & Reflections – Short-form essays on language, identity, community, and East–West comparative insights.
Editor in Chief:​

Dr. Claire Y. van den Broek
Dr. Claire Y. van den Broek holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Indiana University Bloomington, with research focused on comparative literature of the long nineteenth century and the history of psychiatry. She currently teaches in the Master’s Program in English at Southern New Hampshire University and is also a linguist and consultant, working primarily with the U.S. Department of Defense and universities across the United States.
She is the president of Huxley & Hiro bookstore in Wilmington, Delaware, where she has been recognized for her leadership and community engagement. Her honors include being named Business Woman of the Year by Delaware Today and one of Delaware’s Most Influential in Business by the Delaware News Journal.
Dr. van den Broek serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Global Mandarin Academy Journal, where she oversees submissions in comparative literature, creative writing, and cross-cultural scholarship, bringing her extensive academic and editorial experience to support a diverse and inclusive publication.​

Submission Guidelines:

Length: Scholarly articles: 5,000–8,000 words; Creative works: 500–2,500 words; Reviews/Reflections: 800–1,500 words.

Format: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced, with proper citations (Chicago style for scholarly work).
-
Language: English, Chinese, or bilingual (Chinese-English).

Deadline: October, 2026 ( E- Journal will be published in January, 2027)
