Nestled among the hills of Taipei, the Grand Hotel is an architectural icon and a hub of Taiwan’s diplomatic history. Since its founding in 1952, the hotel has served as the national guesthouse for presidents and dignitaries from around the world. Inside, the Golden Dragon Restaurant shines as the premier venue for state banquets, serving refined Cantonese and Teochew cuisine elevated by modern creativity.

🏛️ 飯店的誕生與歷史足跡

From Shrine Grounds to National Prestige


圓山大飯店的地點原為日治時期的台灣神社。戰後神社被拆除,蔣夫人宋美齡主導興建圓山飯店,於1952年正式開幕,目的是提供國家級的接待空間,展示中華文化的風華。


The site of the hotel was once the Taiwan Shrine during Japanese rule. After World War II, the shrine was dismantled and the land repurposed under the guidance of Madame Chiang Kai-shek (Soong Mei-ling). The Grand Hotel officially opened in 1952, intended as a national reception hall that embodied Chinese cultural grandeur.


🏯 宮殿式建築的地標

An Architectural Masterpiece


1973年,由建築師楊卓成設計的十四層宮殿式主樓落成,高達87公尺,當時是全台最高建築。紅柱金瓦、飛簷斗拱,整座建築充滿濃厚的中式宮廷氣息,也因此有「龍宮」之稱。


Completed in 1973, the hotel’s 14-story main building—designed by architect Yang Cho-cheng—reached 87 meters and was once the tallest building in Taiwan. With its red columns, golden tiles, and sweeping eaves, the hotel evokes the splendor of a Chinese palace, earning it the nickname “The Dragon Palace.”

在1970年代,飯店設有兩條地下密道與滑梯,作為總統與外賓的緊急避難通道。多年後於1990年代一場火災後被重新發現,並於近年開放部分導覽,成為最吸睛的神秘亮點。


In the 1970s, two secret tunnels and escape slides were constructed beneath the hotel to protect leaders in emergencies. Rediscovered after a fire in the 1990s, these tunnels have since become part of guided tours, adding a touch of mystery to the hotel’s legacy.
